The renovation respects the existence of the original building's context, both in term of form and scale. The design recognizes the proportions of solid and void bringing equilibrium. To bring the balance between the outside and the inside, the main element is floor-to-ceiling windows neatly arranged in a repetition evoking the monumentality around the façade. Working between the windows and overhanging eaves typical of a tropical home, along with carefully filtering and modulating natural light to suit the available activities. At the same time, the lively activities are encouraged to take place within the living room, dining room, and kitchen are all open plan, fostering a sense of connection and shared experience and surrounded by built-in cabinetry that not only provides organized storage but also contributes to the overall sense of order and efficiency.
The arrangement of individual rooms emphasizes interactions with natural light. The west-facing bathrooms and dressing rooms, bathed in the warm afternoon sun, are positioned to act as a buffer zone between the exterior and the more private realm of the bedroom. Furthermore, this linear arrangement serves as a transitional feature, providing a sun-drenched passage to the study located on the opposite side of the house.
